Course Overview:

1. Introduction to ECDIS: Participants receive an overview of ECDIS technology, its functionalities, and its role in modern navigation. This introductory module familiarizes learners with the basic principles of electronic charting systems and sets the foundation for more advanced topics.

2. Regulatory Compliance: ECDIS training emphasizes compliance with international regulations, including those outlined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). Participants learn about chart carriage requirements, chart updates, data management, and the proper use of electronic navigational charts (ENCs).

3. ECDIS Operations: Participants learn how to configure ECDIS settings, display layers, customize data overlays, and navigate through various menus and functions. Hands-on exercises allow learners to familiarize themselves with different ECDIS interfaces and software features.

4. Chart Interpretation and Analysis:  ECDIS training covers techniques for interpreting electronic charts, identifying navigational hazards, understanding symbology, and plotting courses.

5. Route Planning and Monitoring: ECDIS enables efficient route planning and monitoring capabilities. Participants learn how to plan optimal routes, set waypoints, calculate passage times, and monitor vessel progress in real-time.
